~ My Registration From The City Clerks Office, City of New York ~
How do we know you are authorized to marry us?
This is a good question and one that many are reluctant to ask for some reason.
If you get your marriage license at the Town of Babylon or the Town of North Hempstead, they will give a list of officiants who can marry you. I am on those lists. My credentials come from the Federal Government, not the Internet. Myself and my officiants are fully legal to marry you in all 50 states. (registration may be necessary in some states)
New York State’s laws are among the most stringent in the country. However, New York City is the only place that actually checks credentials and requires officiants to register. In 2006 NYC began allowing ministers with online ordinations to legally perform wedding ceremonies, held within the 5 Burroughs. Wedding ceremonies performed outside the New York City limits are still bound by New York State Law. If your officiant was registered with NYC before 2006, their credentials are valid to perform marriages state wide. If they were registered after 2006, you will want to make sure they are not ordained online. If they are, you will want to get legally married before your public ceremony. Below is my certificate of registration issued in 1999.
