Jessica and Nicholas Liu
of Queens, New York
“Happy Valentines Day! I can’t think of a more romantic day for your wedding
than this, the one day of the year reserved for lovers. Your letter said that because
this is the place that Nicholas proposed to you, the Empire State Building stands
tall at the start of your life long journey together. As you already know, the view
from the top stretches far beyond what they eye can see, enticing the soul to soar
and to dream beyond any limitation. Growing up just a few blocks away from one
other,  you said that it is as if you have found small town romance in the big city.
I myself would like to believe that there is one special person who is meant to be
perfect for each of us. That they are out there growing and becoming, so that we
meet them, they know with merely a glance, the deepest recesses of our hearts.
Like the first time you were planning to come here but were thwarted by a snow
storm… I wonder if you passed one another in the street as children, never
knowing that you had just glimpsed your future. There was a very famous movie
called “An Affair to Remember” that began the tradition of getting married at the
top of the Empire State building on Valentines Day. It called this place “the nearest
thing to Heaven we have in New York“. I think today we are happy to take second
place to the feeling you have in your hearts and have found in one another’s arms.”
